sunday in hong kong

currently using the free internet service in the hong kong airport.

i return to Malaysia without the iPhone i came with, less money in the bank and incredible gratefulness for my family.

however i also return with an unfortunate taste in my mouth left after this experience in hong kong.

i was writing in my travel diary trying to find words to describe why i dislike hong kong so much, and it was very difficult. initially i attributed it to my lack of adventure – maybe it was just the fact that i couldn’t deal with the fact that i didn’t understand the language. then maybe it was just because i didn’t have the ability to communicate in any other way except through Elaine – she was my primary translator because i have extremely minimal cantonese linguistic skills. maybe it was the fact that the only thing that people really do in hong kong is spend money on looking good so that they can look good while spending money. maybe i just really dislike winter holidays cos i didn’t enjoy the city of melbourne either – and i was there for weeks during the winter season.

all in all, the point is i have never felt more empty during a holiday than i have while being in hong kong. and i have never felt so glad to be able to depart from a country in my life. for some reason though, i have the strangest feeling i will still find myself coming back. there is the tiniest glimmer of hope that maybe i am all wrong – and i sincerely hope that i am wrong =)

during this 7 week holiday…. my biggest fear is to still be the unchanged Lauranne, just with more flair for fun and adventure. i tremble if I were to be a person merely languishing in earthly pleasures. God forbid that I remain the same person I am now after my travels, my heart yearns to gain You as my only treasure. Lord i humbly plea… please unblind my eyes and break my stony heart. change me as I go, so that you may be glorified as I go along all the days of my life..

thoughts that float a lot in my head include: the love of Christ, true brokenness and humility to Christ and to others, slave to righteousness and bond servant to Jesus, surrendered will living in submission to the Lord, true repentance, my attitude and motives, true fear of the Lord, spiritual discipline and its foundation in belonging solely to the Lord, being led by the spirit for understanding, and ultimately.. giving up the rights to run my own life.

today i am drawn to the fear of the Lord.

abraham was a true fearer of God ay. and his reverence for the Lord led to his quiet submission and obedience to the Lord. to have an unquestionable reverence for the Lord…. o Lord please break my self image and my self that my reverence for you increases and love of myself decreases.
